The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has confirmed the death of one individual in a tragic accident on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos on Saturday morning.

According to reports from Naija News, the accident involved a mini truck (MUS 489 XS) and a Toyota Camry (KRD 470 JD). LASTMA's statement indicated that preliminary investigations attributed the cause to excessive speeding during the morning's downpour.

Sola Giwa, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, in a statement signed by Adebayo Taofiq, Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department at LASTMA, mentioned that three other individuals were rescued from the scene.

LASTMA operatives responded swiftly to the incident, which occurred near the Unilag waterfront, heading towards the Iyana-Oworonsoki area of Lagos. Despite ongoing campaigns to educate motorists about speed limits, drivers continue to violate the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018, Giwa noted.

Giwa urged both commercial bus drivers and private car owners to adhere to speed limits on the Third Mainland Bridge and other roads in the state.

The deceased was promptly removed by officials from the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU), and LASTMA cleared the accident vehicles to ensure smooth traffic flow on the bridge.

Giwa extended his condolences to the family of the deceased and stressed the importance of road safety.
