Senior Israeli Official Claims Netanyahu’s Office Undermining Hostage Talks

opera.com 2 days ago

According to a report by Al Jazeera, A senior Israeli official has alleged that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office is hindering hostage negotiations, despite the Mossad-led negotiating team's positive assessment of the latest hostage deal proposal from Hamas.

According to the official, the latest proposal from Hamas was significantly improved compared to its previous offer, which was labeled a "non-starter" by the Israeli team. However, Netanyahu's office chose to issue a statement through an anonymous "security official," citing a disagreement over a clause that would prevent Israel from resuming fighting after the initial phase of a truce deal.

Moreover, the official claims that the Prime Minister’s Office deliberately delayed confirming receipt of Hamas's latest response, implying an attempt to sabotage the talks.

The allegations raise concerns about the Israeli government's approach to the negotiations and its potential impact on the ongoing efforts to secure the release of hostages.
