According to reports from PUNCH, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has issued a strong dismissal of recent calls for a Yoruba Nation, labeling the agitation as "laughable" during a press briefing in Abuja.

Maj. Gen. Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, emphasized that such movements only exacerbate the already challenging security situation in the country.

The DHQ's statement comes in response to a recent incident where Yoruba Nation agitators, dressed in military camouflage, attempted to take over the Oyo State secretariat and State House of Assembly.

Security forces intervened, resulting in the arrest of 29 suspects who were subsequently arraigned on charges including treasonable felony, unlawful society membership, and illegal possession of firearms.

Maj. Gen. Edward Buba condemned the use of firearms against a constituted government, stressing that such actions are unconstitutional and will be met with decisive military action.

Highlighting recent military achievements, Buba revealed that troops had successfully neutralized 192 terrorists and arrested 341 suspects in the past week alone.

Additionally, 122 ISWAP/JAS combatants surrendered along with their family members, a significant development in ongoing efforts against insurgency.

Furthermore, the DHQ disclosed that troops had apprehended 37 suspected oil thieves and recovered stolen crude oil valued at N821 million.

A substantial cache of weapons and ammunition, including AK47 rifles and Dane guns, were also seized during operations.

However, Buba raised concerns over potential attempts by terrorists and their sympathizers to discredit military efforts through false narratives.

He warned the media to be vigilant against these tactics, emphasizing that recent airstrikes had disrupted terrorist activities and thwarted their strategic objectives.
