Aggrieved aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, who contested for the party's gubernatorial ticket, have resolved to pursue legal action against the outcome of the primary election.

According to DAILY POST, this decision comes amidst allegations of irregularities and claims that the entire process was flawed.

The primary election, held on April 20, 2024, saw incumbent Governor Usman Ododo emerge as the winner.

However, many aspirants have raised concerns about the conduct of the exercise, accusing the Governor Ododo-led committee of orchestrating a sham process.

Several aspirants, including Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, Olusola Oke, Folakemi Omogoroye, Olugbenga Edema, Jimi Odimayo, and Wale Akinterinwa, have lodged petitions challenging the victory of Governor Aiyedatiwa.

They allege that the primary election did not adhere to the party's procedures and that irregularities marred the entire process.

Mr. Gbenga Edema, one of the aspirants, expressed dissatisfaction with the conduct of the election, citing delays in the distribution of electoral materials and a lack of transparency in the process.

Despite efforts by party officials, including a peace meeting facilitated by APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, the aggrieved aspirants remain resolute in seeking redress through legal channels.

Speaking on behalf of the aspirants, Hon Olugbenga Edema reiterated their stance that Governor Aiyedatiwa's victory was illegitimate.

He emphasized the need for a post-mortem examination of the election process to address the alleged irregularities.

The aspirants are currently awaiting the outcome of the party's appeal committee, which was tasked with reviewing their grievances.

Depending on the committee's decision, they plan to take further action, including possible litigation to challenge the election outcome.

Meanwhile, Governor Aiyedatiwa has defended his victory, dismissing allegations of irregularities and certificate forgery.

Despite protests by some members of the party in Ondo State, the governor remains confident in his candidacy for the upcoming gubernatorial election.
