Dr. Emmanuel Meribole, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, highlighted a strategic shift in their procurement approach.

They have transitioned from purchasing laptops to desktop computers to enhance the productivity of their workers.

The reasons behind this decision include the desire to ensure that employees are proficient in using technology and have the necessary tools readily available when they are assigned to different locations.

Emmanuel emphasized that the previous practice of providing laptops led to logistical challenges when officers were transferred, as it created a need to search for and reallocate the laptops.

By opting for desktop computers instead, the Ministry aims to streamline operations and ensure a seamless work environment for its staff.

This shift not only simplifies the equipment management process but also underscores the Ministry's commitment to leveraging technology to empower its workforce and drive efficiency.

According to The Nation, Emmanuel said, “We no longer buy laptops but we buy desktops. Part of the reason is to improve the productivity of workers. We want to ensure that they embrace technology and that technology means they have to be competent in the use of their computers.

“Initially, we were buying laptops but we discovered that when officers are posted out, we start looking for the laptops. So, the best we could do is to ensure that the desktops are there for the workers so that when a worker comes, he has the necessary tools to work.”
