Members of the Nigerian Senate recently visited Rivers State and urged Governor Siminalayi Fubara to steadfastly uphold peace amidst escalating political tensions following the expiration of local government chairmen's tenures. Led by Senator Orji Kalu, the Senate Committee on Privatisation and Commercialisation conveyed their message during a cordial meeting at the Port Harcourt Government House.

Senator Kalu stressed the imperative for Governor Fubara to exercise restraint in the interest of maintaining stability and fostering progress across the state. He assured the governor of the Senate committee's commitment to facilitating dialogue involving key stakeholders, including President Tinubu and former governor Nyesom Wike, advocating for a collective focus on advancing economic growth and enhancing the quality of life for residents of Rivers State.

Governor Fubara, in response, reaffirmed his dedication to preserving law and order despite facing significant challenges and disruptions. He emphasized that his administration remains resolute in delivering on electoral mandates and cautioned against allowing political disturbances to detract from developmental agendas. Reflecting on recent events, including an attempted dynamite explosion during protests, the governor attributed such incidents to efforts aimed at destabilizing the state.

Furthermore, Governor Fubara underscored the adherence of his government to constitutional provisions governing local government tenure. He urged lawmakers to address underlying issues constructively while committing to collaborating on initiatives that promote beneficial privatization and commercialization opportunities for Rivers State.

The governor's remarks also highlighted the need for unity among political leaders to safeguard democratic processes and ensure sustainable progress. He expressed willingness to engage in productive dialogue aimed at resolving differences and promoting inclusive governance practices that benefit all residents.

The visit concluded on a positive note, with both parties expressing mutual willingness to work together in advancing the interests of Rivers State. Senator Kalu reiterated the Senate committee's support for initiatives that promote peace, economic prosperity, and the overall well-being of the state's populace.
