On Thursday, the Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani, emphasized his dedication to upholding the rule of law by reinstating Chief Jonathan Zamuna as the paramount Chief of Piriga in Lere Local Government Area.
According to a report by Punch, Chief Zamuna was removed from his position by the previous governor, Nasir El-Rufa’i, on May 22, 2023, just days before El-Rufa’i left office.
The National Industrial Court in Kaduna, led by Justice Bashar Alkali, ruled that Chief Zamuna’s removal was unjust and invalid.
The court declared his dethronement irregular, unfair, and against good conscience, ordering that he be restored to his position with all his salaries, allowances, and benefits within 30 days.
Governor Sani, speaking at a meeting with the Kaduna State Council of Chiefs at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House, praised traditional rulers as essential to maintaining stability in the state.
He stressed that the traditional institution is crucial for any government because of its strong connection to the grassroots and local communities.
