When Deputy President Hon. Rigathi Gachagua and his boss, President William Ruto, announced that the Mt. Kenya region will produce a presidential candidate ahead of the upcoming general election in 2027, Hon. Ferdinand Waititu—also known as the Baba Yao—served them a bitter tea this morning.

Speaking on July 3, as reported by various media outlets, such as Kenyans.co.ke, the outspoken Mt Kenya aide predicted that the area would produce a successor to fill the void created by the departure of former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

There's no doubt that President William Ruto and his deputy, Hon. Rigathi Gachagua, will be in serious competition if the threat materializes.

The Mount Kenya region has 9.5 million registered voters, according to IEBC data on registered voters, and 4.7 million of those people cast ballots in favor of Raila and Ruto in the 2022 elections.

It will be interesting to see if the stated presidential candidate overcomes President William Ruto's waning support across the nation, especially now that candidates such as Kalonzo Musyoka have chosen to run for the top seat, eliminating Ukambani and the coastal region. Ruto and Gachagua may be able to win the election by utilizing the Western region, the Rift Valley region, and a portion of Mount Kenya.
