Man Utd could open the exit door for Harry Maguire after two successful transfers

According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United defender Harry Maguire faces uncertain prospects with the club amid potential signings of Matthijs de Ligt and Jarrad Branthwaite, which could see him edged towards the exit door.

Following Raphael Varane's departure, United are eyeing a defensive overhaul with De Ligt and Branthwaite on their radar. De Ligt, a long-term target for top European clubs, enjoyed success under manager Erik ten Hag at Ajax, where he captained the team as a teenager and achieved domestic and Champions League feats.

Branthwaite, a promising young English defender, is United's primary defensive target, poised to bolster their ranks significantly.

While Lisandro Martinez holds a key role when fit, Branthwaite and De Ligt would compete for starting positions, potentially leaving Maguire on the periphery, especially if Martinez remains first-choice or shifts to accommodate injuries.

Maguire, who rejuvenated his United career last season after a challenging start, faces the prospect of reduced playing time amidst the arrival of new defensive talents. Despite reclaiming managerial trust with solid performances and improved defensive metrics, the influx of fresh talent may signal the conclusion of his tenure at Old Trafford or a significant reduction in his role moving forward.
