On July 7, 2024, Nigeria experienced yet another setback with its national power grid. The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) reported a partial disturbance that occurred around 15:09hrs on Saturday, resulting from the unexpected tripping of three units at a power generating station. This event abruptly withdrew 313MW from the grid, leading to significant system instability and the subsequent loss of bulk supply to a section of the national grid.

In a statement released on Sunday by Ndidi Mbah, the General Manager Public Affairs at TCN, it was confirmed that immediate action was taken to stabilize the situation. The System Operator responded swiftly by isolating a section of the grid, which included the Ibom Power Station. This measure allowed uninterrupted power supply to regions such as Uyo, Aba, Itu, Eket, Calabar, among others, while other parts of the grid remained without electricity.

Efforts to restore the grid commenced promptly following the incident, and by 21:57hrs the same day, TCN successfully restored full functionality to the affected part of the grid.
