One Auwalu Haruna has been detained by the Nigeria Police Force in Yobe state on suspicion of kidnapping a twenty-year-old woman and using charm to get her pregnant.

The Command Spokesman, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed in a press release that 34 incidents of gender-based assault and associated offenses were reported in the previous six months, of which 85% were found guilty after trials.

"Mallam Auwalu Haruna, a self-described Marabou, was recently arrested by the command for allegedly kidnapping, using charms, and impregnating a woman who is 20 years old."

"The command recorded 34 cases of GBV and related crimes between January and June 2024, with 85% currently undergoing trial and a few convictions secured," the statement states in part.

"Tarmuwa Divisional Police Headquarters received a complaint from Alh Mohammed Kellu that his daughter was abducted by Mallam Auwalu Haruna on June 6, 2024," he continued, citing the most recent occurrence. After an extensive search, the victim was discovered in Anguwan Arewa, Gaya LGA, Kano State, under the suspect's possession.

The victim was found to be two months pregnant after a medical examination. The victim admitted that the attacker forced her to consume a medical mixture, which left her unconscious and open to his or her acts.

Since offenders are frequently close relatives, neighbors, or friends, the state's commissioner of police, CP Garba Ahmed, urged parents, guardians, and community leaders to be watchful about the interactions their wards have with others.

He urged all parties involved to work together to eradicate gender-based violence (GBV), which has serious repercussions for the welfare and development of girls as well as for society at large.
