According to Daily Trust, Former Governor of Imo State, Emeka Ihedioha, commented on the significant number of departures from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following his own exit, interpreting this mass exodus as a strong endorsement of his leadership. During a televised interview on AriseTV, Ihedioha articulated that his decision to leave the PDP was driven by his followers' aspirations for him to spearhead significant change and contribute positively to the rebuilding of Imo State.

Ihedioha criticized the PDP leadership, characterizing them as inflexible and resistant to new ideas that could potentially rejuvenate the party. His resignation, he claims, sparked a widespread movement within the party, with numerous leaders and members from across 305 wards and 4,800 chapters choosing to leave the party as well. According to Ihedioha, this mass resignation was a spontaneous and voluntary show of support for his future political endeavors and vision for democracy.

This wave of resignations underscores a critical period for the PDP in Imo State, as it grapples with internal dissent and the challenge of maintaining unity and direction. Ihedioha’s remarks not only highlight the factional tensions within the party but also signal his ongoing influence in the state’s political landscape, as he seeks to consolidate support for a new platform that aligns with his and his followers' goals for progress.

He said, “After I resigned, there is a spontaneous deluge of people who are successful in different ways, who are political leaders across 305 political wards 4800 chapters in the political party resigned en masse, I couldn’t have paid for that, it is a vote of confidence in me and our desire to get democracy to work and get a platform that can bring like minds together to pursue progress.”
