According to Punch, President Bola Tinubu has tasked the Nigerian Army with preventing violent groups from overrunning the country. Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 2024 Nigeria Army Day celebration in Plateau State, Tinubu acknowledged the army's sacrifices in keeping citizens safe despite security challenges.

The president pledged to equip the army to perform their constitutional role, approving payment of Group Life Assurance for deceased soldiers and the purchase of attack helicopters and combat equipment. He emphasized the need for the army to evolve with changing security threats, urging them to conduct themselves professionally.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, thanked the president for his guidance and pledged the army's loyalty and commitment to defending the constitution. The ceremony featured the commissioning of military aircraft, a display of military vehicles, and the presentation of awards to military personnel and civilians for outstanding service.

Tinubu's charge to the army comes as Nigeria faces security challenges from various violent groups. The president's commitment to equipping the army and his emphasis on professional conduct aim to boost the army's capacity to protect citizens and maintain national security.
