The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Bagudu, yesterday said there was no clause on $150 billion for Nigeria in Samoa Agreement.

He said what Nigeria signed was the “Partnership Agreement between the European Union and its Members States and members of the Organization of the Caribbean and Pacific States”.

He denied that the agreement had anything to do with the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) rights.

He said Nigeria’s signing of the agreement was accompanied by a declaration clarifying its understanding of it.

He said the agreement Nigeria entered into contained 103 foundational articles and 79 African region specific protocols.

He said “none of the protocols offends our laws.”

He said the agreement has no clause on LGBTQ+ rights or any agreement indicating that Nigeria support LGBTQ rights. He said: “Anything we sign must be in tandem with our constitution and laws. Anything beyond that is null and void.

“Tinubu respects Nigeria’s sensitivity and diversity and will never approve anything that will be seen as damaging our sensitivity.”

Bagudu spoke at an emergency press briefing on Abuja in the company of the Minister of information and Orientation, Mohammed Idris, and the Special Assistant to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga.

Rivers State governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has insisted that nothing will distract his administration from giving the people the best that will improve the quality of life in the state.

Fubara spoke shortly after inspecting the premises and structures of the Zonal Hospital, Degema Town in Degema Local Government Area yesterday.

The governor noted the absence of a befitting healthcare facility in the area but said that the right steps were being taken to address the situation.

Fubara emphasised that his administration was giving greater attention to issues of healthcare, education and agriculture to enable people access quality services from the key sectors.

The governor said: “We are here this afternoon, just like what happened yesterday and if you could remember, I said part of our areas of concern, going forward, will be healthcare services.

“And yesterday, I did mention that we were on inspection to check the Bori Zonal Hospital covering that particular senatorial district, and will also go and see those in Degema, Ahoada and Omoku.

“But, we are here in Degema today to assess the level of work ongoing. As you can see, we don’t have a befitting and standard healthcare facility here. And that is why we need to put this place in order to make it standard.”

Why We Want Abure To Quit As LP National Chairman–Omar, LPNTC Chairman

The Chairman of the Labour Party National Transition Committee (LPNTC), Abdulwaheed Omar, has vowed that they would take over and reposition the party ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Omar in this interview with Sunday Sun said this has become necessary as the tenure of Julius Abure as the chairman of the party expired in April last year.

The former President of the NLC said that part of NTC’s terms of reference, includes amending the Labour Party constitution that would ensure grassroots politics or the bottom-to-top approach in choosing party executives.

He also said that this move is to rescue the party from sole administratorship and to enshrine democracy which is grossly lacking in the party presently.

Your committee has been accused of trying to foment trouble by setting up a factional Labour Party, is this true?

That is an opinion of disillusioned and biased people who have not been able to know the rubric of the matter and the reason for the move by stakeholders to rescue the Labour Party from Julius Abure. Part of the reasons we went out on demonstration at the Labour Party headquarters was also to register our feelings and to enable the people to know that the committee is working and that we have gone far. Also, we want to register in the minds of all Nigerians, that the Nigeria Labour Congress NLC/ TUC and other stakeholders are serious about taking back their party.
