In an unusual turn of events, the Lagos State Police Command has apprehended a 36-year-old robbery suspect, Amos Daniel, who stole his employer’s car on his first day of work. According to Vanguard, Daniel took the stolen vehicle to his church for dedication and thanksgiving, claiming it was a miraculous provision from God.

During a press briefing at the Command Headquarters in Ikeja, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hudenyin, provided details on the case. He highlighted the employer's lack of due diligence in hiring Daniel, which led to the theft. The suspect disappeared with the car on the same day he started his job as a driver, making it difficult for his employer to trace him.

He said, “We also have somebody who was employed as a driver. Unfortunately, the employer did not do due diligence. The same day he resumed as a driver, he ran away with the car and could not be traced. Interestingly, he dedicated the car in church the following Sunday, testifying of what God had done to him.”

When questioned by journalists, Daniel admitted to stealing his employer's Lexus car. He described taking the car to church to testify that God had blessed him, which added a bizarre twist to the crime. Daniel further revealed that he committed the theft on June 23, 2024, his first day on the job, and presented the car at his church for dedication and testimony a week later, on June 30, 2024.

The suspect said: “I stole my madam’s Lexus car and took it to the church to testify that God has blessed me.”
