Insecurity: Peter Obi Speaks Out On The Recent Attacks In The Country

Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party has taken to his X handle to speak out on the recent violence in the country.


According to the statement made known by Peter Obi, he emphasized the paramount importance of security in achieving peace and development in Nigeria. He acknowledged the ongoing national discourse dominated by security concerns, fueled by recent violent attacks that have left the nation on edge. 


Peter Obi expressed concern over the growing perception that insecurity has overwhelmed the state, with responses deemed weak and ineffective. He highlighted the detrimental impact of this situation, denying citizens the right to peaceful living and threatening the very fabric of Nigerian society. 


He raised concerns about the commitment of leaders to address the security crisis, questioning their dedication to ending the menace of insecurity. This statement comes amidst a backdrop of escalating violence, with a recent attack on a police station in Ebonyi State on June 26, 2024, resulting in the tragic loss of six lives. 


Peter Obi responded to reports of another violent attack, this time in Imo State, where gunmen killed six people in Ama Hausa, Garki, on June 27, 2024.


Peter Obi expressed deep sorrow and condemnation following the devastating bombing at a wedding venue in Gwoza town, Borno State, which resulted in the loss of innocent lives and injuries to many. This tragic event highlights the widespread insecurity plaguing the nation and the urgent need for decisive action. 


Peter Obi concluded his statement with a call for resilience in the face of the ongoing security crisis. He offered prayers for the deceased and wished a speedy recovery for the injured. He emphasized the importance of resisting the forces seeking to disrupt the peaceful existence of the nation, urging Nigerians to stand united against the threats to their security and well-being.
