Adam Oshiomhole, a notable Nigerian politician and former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), recently delivered a compelling speech addressing Nigeria's worsening economy. With a career spanning various roles, including trade unionist and state governor, Oshiomhole has been a vocal critic of the systemic issues plaguing Nigeria. His speech not only highlighted the economic challenges facing the nation but also shed light on his personal journey of confronting authority figures throughout his life.

In his speech, Oshiomhole candidly shared, "All I've done in my life is fighting professors, managers, and political power." This statement encapsulates his persistent struggle against those in positions of authority who, in his view, misuse their power. He reflected on how these confrontations have shaped his approach to leadership and governance, emphasizing that his experiences have equipped him with a unique perspective on Nigeria's economic crisis.

"So, none of this qualifies me to give a lecture," he admitted, acknowledging his unconventional background. "But I did say that I am encouraged early in life never to feel intimidated by experts because the dictatorship of experts can be very, very dangerous, sometimes more dangerous than the dictatorship of military generals. They have the power to reframe the way you think and to make you feel inferior, even on issues where they are wrong, because you don't have the command of those jargons. The debate is closed and it's limited to a few of them alone."

Oshiomhole's speech resonated with many, as he continued, "So, I've learned in life to interrogate the more expert they think they are, the more I feel obliged to interrogate them. A stammerer should not be afraid of a debate; it might take him more time to pronounce a word, but eventually, he will get there." His words serve as a powerful reminder of the importance of questioning authority and the dangers of unchecked power, whether in academia, management, or politics.

Through his speech, Adam Oshiomhole not only critiqued Nigeria's current economic state but also inspired a call to action for Nigerians to challenge and hold accountable those in power. His message underscores the necessity of vigilance and active participation in governance to address the nation's economic woes effectively.
