The detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has reportedly agreed to comply with the conditions set by the Nigerian government for his release from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS). According to Sahara Reporters, this development was disclosed by Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, who represents Abia South Senatorial District, after a meeting between South-East Senators and the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), on Wednesday.

Senator Abaribe, speaking on behalf of his colleagues, expressed optimism that the Attorney-General would influence the Federal Government to consider releasing Kanu. He emphasized that Kanu's prolonged detention has been contributing to heightened insecurity and unrest in the South-East region.

"Meeting with the Attorney-General gives us hope that a resolution can be reached," Abaribe stated. "Kanu's continued detention has serious implications for peace and security in our region. He has shown readiness to comply with any conditions for his release, which we believe is a significant step towards calming the situation."

Approximately 15 federal lawmakers participated in the closed-door meeting, led by Senator Abaribe. The senators' efforts align with the recent decision by South-East governors to appeal directly to President Bola Tinubu for Kanu's release.

Senator Abaribe also revealed that he had personally met with Kanu at the DSS headquarters, where Kanu confirmed his willingness to adhere to the government's conditions for his release. This meeting follows a similar appeal from a group of 50 members of the House of Representatives, who urged President Tinubu to instruct the Attorney-General to use Section 174 of the Constitution to terminate the terrorism-related charges against Kanu.
