The widow of a Bayelsa driver, Banalayefa Asiayei, who was allegedly shot by a policeman, Evelyn Asiayei, told her family that an eyewitness who was in the car with her husband said that the man got out of the car, looked at her husband, got back in the car, and drove off after the security officer shot him. The witness hurriedly noted down the number plate number of the van, according to her.
Evelyn Asiayei reportedly told The Punch News that her husband was shot by a police officer as one of the passengers remained in the car. They were enraged after the eyewitness described all that had transpired. To the front gate of the government residence they carried the corpse. The decision was unanimous. There were a lot of people monitoring Azikoro Road when my husband was killed, so the policemen there initially wanted to know how they knew it was an Operation Doo Akpo member who shot him.
"According to my husband's family, an eyewitness had provided them with the van number," Evelyn Asiayei stated. An eyewitness said that the officer shot my husband, then got out of his car, looked at him, and then drove away. Upon seeing the van, the eyewitness hastily jotted down its licence plate. Consequently, the officers at the gate were contacted after my husband's family provided them with the van's number.
