According to Fichajes, Manchester United are preparing to submit an offer for Flamengo’s highly-rated right-back Wesley, following a £24.9 million bid from Zenit. The 21-year-old Brazilian defender has attracted significant attention from top European clubs due to his pace, attacking prowess, and technical ability. With his contract at Flamengo running until 2028, United may need to meet the club’s asking price to secure his services ahead of next season.

United’s pursuit of Wesley comes as Ruben Amorim continues to reshape the squad with a clear vision for the future. Since taking charge, the Portuguese manager has shown a willingness to make bold decisions, including sidelining Marcus Rashford and prioritizing Manuel Ugarte over Casemiro in midfield.

His no-nonsense approach suggests that he is wasting no time in identifying key targets for the upcoming campaign, and Wesley appears to be a player who fits his system perfectly.

Amorim’s tactical setup relies on a back-three formation with attacking wing-backs, a role that suits Wesley’s strengths. The young Brazilian is known for his ability to surge forward, deliver dangerous crosses, and contribute in the final third, making him an exciting prospect for United’s right flank.

His attacking instincts align with Amorim’s style of play, and he could provide excellent depth alongside Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui.

One of the key advantages of adding Wesley to the squad is his versatility and the flexibility it offers in team selection. While Wesley would primarily compete for the right wing-back role, Mazraoui’s ability to operate as a central defender ensures that the squad remains balanced without creating unnecessary congestion in the defensive unit.

This strategic planning highlights Amorim’s methodical approach to squad building, ensuring that each signing serves a tactical purpose rather than simply adding depth for the sake of it.

Despite his youth, Wesley has already demonstrated qualities that make him a standout talent in Brazilian football. His raw speed, confidence on the ball, and ability to break defensive lines have drawn comparisons to some of the best attacking full-backs in the game.

However, his defensive game still needs refinement, and playing under a coach like Amorim in a system that emphasizes structured pressing and tactical discipline could accelerate his development.
