REPORT: Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea get boost in four-way Riccardo Calafiori transfer battle

opera.com 2 days ago

Bologna is willing to consider offers from Premier League clubs for defender Riccardo Calafiori after the European Championships. The 22-year-old Italian international has impressed at the tournament, attracting interest from Arsenal, Juventus, and others.

While Juventus is a frontrunner, Bologna is hesitant to sell to their domestic rivals due to Juve's recent poaching of their coach, Thiago Motta. Instead, they prefer to deal with English clubs, with Arsenal already making an enquiry. However, Arsenal's interest may depend on the future of Jakub Kiwior, also wanted by Juventus and AC Milan.

Liverpool, led by sporting director Richard Hughes, is another admirer of Calafiori, who can play at centre-back and left-back. The Reds are seeking a left-footed centre-back, making Calafiori a suitable target. Chelsea and West Ham United are also interested, but Bologna will demand a premium fee, likely over £40 million, due to FC Basel's 40% sell-on clause.

Bologna's sporting director, Marco Di Vaio, acknowledges Calafiori's value will increase after the European Championships but intends to keep all players, including Calafiori. With Calafiori under contract until 2028, Bologna is in no rush to sell and will only consider deals on their terms.
