I Don't Have Powers To Reduce My Own Salary, " Sifuna Says After Being Told To Cut 150,000 From Pay

Nairobi senator Edwin Sifuna has had his say after a concerned netizen asked him on what Kenyans were asking from them, the political class. The concerned Kenyan told him that he should consider cutting down his pay by about 150,000 shs and that he should consider leaving some of the perks he enjoys currently if we are to help the country.

Sifuna however says that he does not have the powers to reduce his own salary since he is just an employee of Kenyans. That we all find ourselves in this bizarre situation where Kenyans who are actually their bosses are asking them to reduce their own salary.

He then clarifies that elected members of parliament do not set their own payslips nor do they have power to rectify anything on them.

Currently, there is pressure from the electorate for the government workers to take pay cuts so as to ensure Kenya cuts down on its spenditure.
