Man chains his 5-year-old son, says he did so in order to prevent him from stealing from neighbour

A man who was said to have chained his five-year-old son inside a room in his apartment for days has told men of the Bauchi State Police Command that he did so in order to prevent him from stealing his neighbour's valuables, it was gathered on Thursday, July 4, 2024.

The state police command, which announced the incident on its Facebook wall on Thursday, said the man, Abubakar Nuhu, was arrested by police operatives from the D Division of the command following information received on the matter.

According to the command, the operatives went to the man's house after getting information that he chained his son inside the room and on getting there, they saw the boy and rescued him.

The command wrote: "During an interview, the boy, who Identified himself as Hussaini Abubakar, revealed that he was treated in an inhumane manner by his biological father. He further stated that he was chained for many days and also did not eat for three days."

According to the command, the operatives later launched a manhunt for the father and after some time, he was arrested.

"During interrogation, Abubakar Nuhu, popularly known as Wanzam, claimed that he chained the minor in order to prevent him from stealing their neighbour’s valuables and he was advised to do so by a friend," the command added.

The command disclosed that the matter had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) and he is expected to be charged to court at the conclusion of the investigation.
