Indonesians Protest in Solidarity with Palestinians, Call for Israeli Product Boycott

opera.com 2024/8/22

In Bandung, West Java, hundreds of Indonesians took to the streets to demonstrate their support for the Palestinian cause and condemn Israel's actions in the region. The protesters, many wearing Palestinian scarves and headbands, called for a boycott of Israeli products and held signs denouncing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

According to Al Jazeera, this protest is the latest in a long history of pro-Palestinian activism in Indonesia, the world's largest Muslim-majority country. Despite rumors of potential diplomatic normalization with Israel, the Indonesian government has consistently maintained that it will not establish formal ties until an independent Palestinian state is recognized.

The protest reflects the strong anti-Israel sentiment in Indonesia and across the Muslim world, fueled by the ongoing conflict in Gaza. The Indonesian government and people remain committed to supporting the Palestinian cause and advocating for their rights.
