According to Vanguard, a 19-year-old pregnant girl on the verge of committing suicide was rescued by police officers attached to the Ikorodu Area Command, Lagos.

The girl, eight months pregnant, had called a close friend, expressing despair after being abandoned by the boy who impregnated her. To make matters worse, she was under threat of arrest by her employer, for whom she worked as a Point of Sale (POS) operator, after a customer defrauded her of N100,000.

Upon learning about the girl's suicidal intentions, Area Commander Musendique Orobiyi swiftly deployed a team of female detectives to locate and save her. The detectives found her in Iyana-Iyesi, Ogun State, just as she was about to drink a bottle of sniper she had bought.

The girl was rescued and taken to the Ikorodu Area Command, where she received food, new clothes, and necessary guidance before being handed over to the gender unit at the Lagos State Police Command headquarters in Ikeja.

In a phone interview with Vanguard, the girl lamented the unfairness of life, detailing how her troubles began after her boyfriend denied the pregnancy and moved out. She was also duped at work, leaving her without support, as her parents are divorced and untraceable.

"I haven't gone to antenatal care even once because I have no funds," she said. "The police helped me when I thought they wouldn't. They fed and clothed me, and the Area Commander was especially kind. Their support has changed my mind about taking my life."

Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident.
