The Benue State Government has strongly condemned the recent violence in Ukum Local Government Area, which resulted in the loss of six innocent lives. According to a statement by the Governor, the government has taken swift action to neutralize the bandits responsible for the attack, recovering weapons and preventing further violence.
"The mayhem caused by these heinous acts of violence has not gone unnoticed, and I stand with you in condemning these atrocities," the Governor said, as quoted in Punch News. "Full military intervention has been ordered, and we are intensifying our efforts in collaborating with security agencies to bring the perpetrators to justice."
The government has also appealed to youths in the area to abandon violence and work towards peace, extending an olive branch to those willing to surrender. A commission of enquiry will be set up to investigate the remote and immediate causes of the violence.
"We understand that peace and security are the bedrock of development, and we will leave no stone unturned in our pursuit of a safe and prosperous Benue State," the Governor assured residents. "We will not sit back and allow anyone or group to frustrate the peace of the State and destabilize the government of Benue State."
