The Lagos State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has embarked on a strategic initiative to reconcile internal factions and strengthen unity within the party ahead of the 2027 general elections, as reported by Punch.

Chief Olabode George, a prominent chieftain of the party, revealed this during an interview on Arise TV's Newsday program.

In light of the party's disappointing performance in the 2023 general elections and ongoing discord among stakeholders, the Lagos PDP has intensified efforts to address internal rifts and consolidate its position as a formidable political force in the state. Despite previous attempts by the party leadership to reconcile warring factions, lingering divisions persisted, prompting renewed efforts to foster unity and cohesion.

Chief Olabode George highlighted the significance of a recent reconciliatory meeting held among party stakeholders in Ikeja. During the meeting, attendees emphasized the importance of forgiveness and unity to enhance the party's electoral prospects in the upcoming elections. While acknowledging that challenges remain, George expressed optimism about the progress made in the reconciliation process, noting positive developments in recent gatherings.

Reflecting on efforts to unify the party, George underscored the importance of conducting postmortem analyses to identify the factors contributing to the party's electoral setbacks. He praised the recent meeting chaired by Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, which brought together leaders from across the Southwest region to discuss strategies for strengthening the party's position.

George affirmed that the Lagos PDP is making significant strides in preparation for the 2027 elections, citing successful efforts to reconcile internal differences and forge a united front.

He stated, “We have been very successful in trying to move forward, it’s still a long time, 2027, the national meeting we had, the NEC meeting we had, plus the caucus meeting, the Board of Trustees meeting, to me was quite successful. So, we we told ourselves some truths, we are setting up committees for reconciliation, we had started our own in Lagos, and it’s been very highly successful.”
