Elder statesman and leader of the Southern and Middle-Belt Leaders Forum (SMBLF), Chief Edwin Clark, has expressed that the group is awaiting a meeting date with the current President of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In an exclusive interview with The Sun, Edwin Clark, an Ijaw leader, shared this sentiment. It is noteworthy that Clark had supported Peter Obi, the Labour Party's presidential candidate, in the last general elections. Despite Clark's support, Peter Obi, the former Governor of Anambra state, was defeated by the All Progressives Congress candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
During the interview, Clark remarked, "Regarding the ongoing insecurity in the country, we are apolitical and nonpartisan. We do not belong to any political organization. Consequently, our members are spread across all parties."
He continued, "This is why we supported Peter Obi as the presidential candidate. Some of our members supported Atiku Abubakar, while others backed the current President. Now that the elections are over, as I mentioned, we are nonpartisan and have returned to our organization."
Clark further stated, "We are waiting for the date when President Tinubu will call us to meet him. He is our president. We have no other president in this country. As long as he is in office, we must work towards the survival of this country."
