According to Daily Post, Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential hopeful, voiced his deep unease over the alarming state of insecurity plaguing Nigeria. "The primary duty of any government is to safeguard the lives and property of its citizens. Without this foundation, no one can live freely and securely," Obi asserted. He passionately called for the immediate release of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained IPOB leader, as well as other activists and protesters unjustly imprisoned.
Obi lamented the disturbing reports of killings, kidnappings, and violence that have made Nigeria one of the most dangerous places on earth. "The situation is so dire; it's pushing our nation to the brink of collapse," he warned gravely. Obi argued that Kanu's continued detention, despite court orders for his release, is a blatant disregard for the rule of law. "We are a democracy—this kind of arbitrary, unlawful imprisonment has no place in our society. All those jailed for exercising their constitutional rights, whether protesters, journalists, or freedom fighters, must be freed immediately," he demanded passionately.
Obi dismissed the idea of forming a "mega-party" to unseat the ruling APC. "I'm far more concerned with how to feed our hungry masses, create jobs, and lift our people out of poverty. These are the real issues that should be our focus, not political power games," he stated firmly. Obi urged the South-East governors to unite and work together to tackle the security crisis in their region. "Our people are suffering and dying. We must act now to make their lives safer and more secure," he pleaded.
Obi thanked the government for their efforts so far but stressed that much more needs to be done. "All leaders, at every level, must come together and take decisive action. We cannot allow our beloved country to descend into a failed state," he warned. Obi expressed his belief that if the government and people work together, Nigeria can overcome this grave challenge. "Our nation's survival is at stake. We must act with courage and unity to secure a better future for all Nigerians," he concluded.
