The Eldoret Court on Friday ordered 16 youths aged between 17 and 24, facing charges of theft and vandalism of property worth over Sh150 million at Timba XO Club linked to Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, to remain in Eldoret prison for about five days pending a bail decision.

The suspects allegedly stole and damaged property at the club during Gen Z protests against taxes in Eldoret on June 25. Defence lawyers had requested the court to grant the suspects lenient bail terms, emphasizing that many were high school and college students from various institutions in Eldoret.

"Some of the suspects are students from Wareng High School, Sosiot High School, and RVTTI. We request this court to consider granting them bail," said lawyer Omolo Asseso representing one of the accused. Following the bail request, Senior Magistrate Kesse Choronoh directed probation officers to submit a pre-bail report to help determine suitable bail terms.

Ms Choronoh hesitated to make a bail decision until assessing the suspects' circumstances, given that some were students, according to their lawyers. A probation officer present in court assured readiness to provide the report by July 9, when the case will be mentioned.

The sixteen face charges of theft, possession of stolen property, and damaging Timba XO Club's property on June 25 during protests in Eldoret. The prosecution informed the court that the suspects stole 11 loudspeakers, flat-screen televisions, lighting equipment, various foods, assorted alcoholic beverages, kitchen appliances, gas cylinders, and other items valued at Sh78,896,560 belonging to Timba XO.

They are also accused of damaging offices, a CCTV control room, the club's main store, alcohol counters, chairs, tables, and various electronic devices, collectively valued at Sh80,000,000. The case will be mentioned on July 9.
