We Won’t Scrap 33 LCDAs–Ondo Govt

Ondo state government has allayed fears that the 33 Local Council Development Authorities, LCDAs, created by the late governor Rotimi Akeredolu, would be scrapped.

Recall that an Ondo State High Court sitting in Akure had nullified the newly created 33 Local Government Development Areas in the state, describing the LCDAs, as illegal and unlawful

Speaking in Akure, the state capital, the states Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Amidu Takuro, who allayed the fears of the people, said the government would appeal the judgment of an Akure High Court that invalidated the council areas.

The House of Representatives on Tuesday urged the Federal and State governments to urgently put in place measures to effectively check the outbreak of cholera in the country.

The House also mandated it’s Committees on Information, National Orientation, Ethics and Values to make public orientation, enlightenment and education of citizens on the need to maintain personal hygiene at all times.

The House in its resolutions further mandated the House Committee on Healthcare services to urgently liaise with relevant stockholders in the health sector to investigate the root cause of the outbreak.

The Governor Ahmed Aliyu administration in Sokoto State says the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III has no constitutional power to appoint district and village heads in the North-West state.

The Sokoto State Attorney General, Muhammad Nasiru Binji, stated this at a public hearing at the State House of Assembly on Tuesday. The public hearing was on a bill for a law to further amend the Sokoto State Local Government and Chieftaincy Law 2008.

He said the law that gives the Sultan the power to appoint anyone contravenes the 1999 constitution.

The justice commissioner said the executive bill sent to the Assembly seeks to correct the inconsistency.

“Section 5(2) of the constitution stipulates that the executive power to appoint in the state is vested on the governor directly or through his deputy, commissioners, or any government agent assigned by the governor.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio led a Senate delegation to pay a condolence visit to a former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, over the demise of his mother, Mrs. Florence Saraki.

Akpabio led the delegation to visit the former Senate President at his Abuja residence on Tuesday.

Among the delegation was the Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, and the Senate Majority Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele.

Others were the Senator representing Kwara Central, Saliu Mustapha; the Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, and the Senator representing Bayelsa Central, Benson Konbowei.
