Ladi Adebutu, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 election in Ogun State, and Segun Showunmi, a chieftain of the party, have issued a strong warning against any attempts to cause fresh crisis within the party.

As reported by PUNCH, The warning came during a stakeholders meeting held at the party secretariat in Abeokuta, in preparation for the party congress.

The chairman of the party, Sikirullahi Ogundele, had previously accused Adebutu of high-handedness and an overbearing attitude, alleging that his leadership style contributed to the party's loss in the previous governorship election to the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Dapo Abiodun.

Adebutu emphasized the need to avoid any temptation that would lead the party back to a state of "scourge and disunity." He highlighted the challenges the party faced during the ten years it spent in the wilderness, plagued by litigations and internal conflicts.

Adebutu acknowledged the difficulty of navigating through those trying times but stressed the importance of unity and cohesion within the party.

"Our party shall remain one; we will avoid any temptation that can cause us to return to the days of scourge and disunity. We can't afford to take the party back to the days of crisis. I beg you as a party that we must be united, the last crisis we had in this party emanated from congresses," Adebutu stated.

Showunmi, on his part, called on party members to support and vote for individuals who will work towards the success of the party in the upcoming congress.

He emphasized the importance of selecting leaders who have the best interests of the party and its members at heart.
