Pa Edwin Clark, an elder statesman and leader of the Southern and Middle-Belt Leaders Forum (SMBLF), has shared his efforts to secure the release of Nnamdi Kanu.

In a report shared today by The Sun, Clark said he wrote a letter to former President Muhammadu Buhari, urging him to free Kanu. He recounted a similar instance involving Asari Dokubo, where he and other leaders successfully advocated for Dokubo's release during President Obasanjo's tenure.

Clark explained that they approached Obasanjo for help, but he stated that the matter was in court and advised them on legal steps to take. He said they followed Obasanjo's guidance and applied for Dokubo's bail, using property deeds as collateral. He said Dokubo was released and the case was eventually dropped

In Pa Clark's words: "You’re aware that Asari Dokubo was being tried for the same offence. I gathered our leaders and led them to meet with President Obasanjo, who was in power at that time. So he said, E. K, this matter is in the court, I cannot interfere with the court. So we discussed it. He advised us on what to do. Our leaders went to court. We said we wanted bail first because the man had been there for too long. One of our leaders, Alabo Graham Douglas, he is dead now, provided his title deed. That’s how we were able to free Asari Dokubo. And since the President was aware of what we were doing, that was the end of the case. It was abandoned"
