A Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District in the 10th National Assembly, Orji Uzor Kalu, has made a passionate appeal to Nigerians to abandon tribalism and embrace unity for the sake of the country's advancement.

As the Senate Committee Chairman on Privatisation and Commercialisation, Kalu said that he cannot support tribalism, instead, he wants Nigeria to move forward.

Speaking during a recent interview, Kalu addressed pressing national issues, stressing that tribalism and corruption must be set aside for progress to be made.

According to a report by The Sun Newspaper on Thursday, he noted that a 21st-century nation like Nigeria should focus on contentment, unity, and development rather than divisive factors like religion and ethnicity.

Kalu said that he was born in Igbere and that he proudly identifies as Igbo and Nigerian.

He urged leaders to prioritize contentment and the country's progress over personal interests.

He said, "Secondly is tribalism, when you look at my face you see the face of Nigeria. I'm not tribalistic. I can never ever support tribalism.

"Yes, I was born an Igbere man, then became an Igbo man and Nigerian, but it's not written on my face. My face shows a Nigerian who wants this country to progress.

"For a country in the 21st century that wants to move forward, do not talk about religion, do not talk about where you come from.

"People should be contented with what they have. My contentment is what leads me in life. I want every leader to think about contentment."
