Lagos Apologises to Residents Over Flash Flood

The Lagos State Government apologized to residents for disruptions caused by a 10-hour rainfall on Wednesday, which led to flash flooding. Commissioner Tokunbo Wahab of the Environment and Water Resources sympathized with affected individuals, announced the arrest of offenders caught dumping waste during the rain, and emphasized ongoing efforts to enhance drainage systems. He acknowledged Lagos' vulnerability to flooding due to its coastal location but assured that infrastructure improvements helped recede floodwaters swiftly after the rain stopped. Wahab urged residents to support government initiatives by maintaining clean drainage channels and reporting violations, emphasizing the need to adapt to global environmental challenges.

ASUU Withdraws Services in UNIBEN

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at the University of Benin (UNIBEN) halted postgraduate academic activities due to unpaid entitlements of N109 million. Despite student protests over inadequate utilities, ASUU withdrew services, stating the university had only paid N50 million. The union demanded full payment for 2020-2022 sessions and a structured agreement for future remuneration before resuming involvement. The decision was backed by ASUU's National Executive Council. The union emphasized the necessity of honoring financial commitments to prevent future disruptions.

Confusion as Mob Allegedly Kills One in Abuja

In the Karshi Area of Abuja, confusion ensued on Wednesday night when a motorcycle robber was mobbed to death by angry commercial motorcyclists, known as Okada riders. The robber had snatched a motorcycle but was caught and set ablaze by the pursuing riders. Calls to the FCT Police Public Relations Officer went unanswered.
