According to reports, MP Alfred Keter who has been among the fiercest critics of the Kenya Kwanza regime was abducted during the day.

A video doing rounds on social media captured a group of about four unidentified men forcibly dragging Keter out of a black license number SUV.

Alfred Keter is one of the most unpopular politicians in Kenya, especially after declaring his stand against President William Ruto and his government, and has often issued statements criticizing the government through his social media accounts.

In a tweet with hashtag #RutoMustGo just a few hours to the alleged kidnap[,] Keter vigorously criticized the regime and called for the resignation of Ruto.

His vocal and persistent critique of the government have endeared him and made him a darling of the opposition and a nuisance to the ruling regime.

The video by Cyprian Nyakundi, captures men in subdued police uniforms accosting Keter and violently forcing him into a car that swiftly drives off.

The number plate of the vehicle used in the operation was a Toyota car and this has led to confusion about the identity of the people who kidnapped her and those they are possibly working with.

The social media platforms were awash with reactions with most of them filled with anger and concern in regard to the well-being of Keter.

A political activist has created the tag #FreeKeter, with followers urging the police force to arrest the politician and find him immediately.

A leading political scientist believes that this event could provoke a new war between the authorities and the opposition. Keter’s abduction came at the time when there have been recent demonstrations and increased political activity in Nairobi as the youths and supporters of the opposition have been expressing their disappointment towards the existing government.

At the time of writing this report, the Kenya Police Service has not released any official statement regarding the incidence. With increasing cases of people going missing, citizens are calling for the police to be more accountable and bring back Alfred Keter safely.

The international community is also watching keenly on the situation in Kenya with several human rights organizations calling for protection of their citizens’ rights and freedoms.
