Concerns rise over shoddy FERMA project as Osun community battles erosion

Residents of Adetoro downtown community in Osogbo, Osun State, are facing hardship due to erosion caused by a construction project carried out by the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA). The project, which involved drainage and road construction, was criticized by residents for its poor execution and disregard for environmental risks. Despite being located on a local government road, FERMA initiated the project, which was abruptly altered midway. Concerns were raised about the deviation from construction standards, selective demolition of obstructing structures, and the agency's alleged misuse of funds.

Residents called for an investigation into the project's corruption and environmental impact, urging government intervention to rectify the situation. The project's termination point and inadequate drainage width exacerbated flooding issues, affecting homeowners and disrupting the community's infrastructure. Efforts to seek clarification from FERMA officials were unsuccessful, highlighting the need for accountability and proper infrastructure planning in government projects.
