Dele Oyewale, the spokesperson for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has shed light on the agency's operational procedures.

Addressing concerns over the attempted arrest of Yahaya Bello, the former governor of Kogi State, on allegations of money laundering, Oyewale staunchly defended the EFCC's adherence to due process and the rule of law.

Speaking in an interview on TVC's Sunday On Politics programme, Oyewale emphasised that every arrest conducted by the EFCC was carried out with meticulous attention to legal principles.

He reiterated the unwavering commitment of the EFCC Chairman, Mr. Olanipekun Olukoyede, to upholding the rule of law in all operational endeavours.

Regarding the case of Yahaya Bello, Oyewale clarified that the EFCC had extended invitations to Bello and even sent him a text message, ensuring proper notification and opportunity for cooperation.

He stressed that all necessary procedures were diligently followed, highlighting the legitimacy of the EFCC's actions.

In response to questions about potential breaches of the EFCC's rules of engagement in making arrests, Oyewale affirmed that the agency operated within the confines of the law at all times.

He emphasised the importance of transparency and accountability in the EFCC's efforts to combat corruption.

Oyewale said, "The EFCC chairman said it openly that Yahaya Bello was invited, and a text message was sent to him. We have our protocols for crying out loud.

"We followed the right thing; we did the right thing. He was duly invited. So there's nothing like a violation of the rule of law; he was duly invited. All the processes and procedures were followed."
