Five Potential Signings That Could Transform Manchester United Into Title Contenders Next Season

Manchester United are preparing for an active transfer window, following the extension of manager Erik ten Hag's contract at Old Trafford. Here are some potential signings that could bolster their squad:

Joshua Zirkzee

The Dutch forward Joshua Zirkzee made waves for Bologna in Serie A last season, helping them secure an unexpected Champions League spot under Thiago Motta.

Zirkzee, who transitioned from Feyenoord’s academy to Bayern Munich, quickly rose through the ranks after an impressive debut for Bayern's reserves.

He made his first team debut against Tottenham in the 2019 Champions League group stage and had subsequent loan spells at Parma and Anderlecht, where he excelled as the top scorer with 15 league goals.

Jarrad Branthwaite

Jarrad Branthwaite has been a name linked with United for a while, potentially becoming a key transfer saga this summer.

The young center-back joined Everton from Carlisle United in 2020 and has since had loan spells at Blackburn and PSV Eindhoven.

Last season, under Sean Dyche, he became a crucial part of Everton’s first team, contributing significantly to their survival in the Premier League.

His stellar performances earned him a call-up to Gareth Southgate's provisional England squad for Euro 2024 and his first international cap.

Miguel Gutierrez

Miguel Gutierrez is another potential addition to United’s squad. Gutierrez played a pivotal role in helping Girona reach the Champions League for the first time in their history last season.

His consistent performances have caught the attention of several clubs, including Liverpool and Arsenal, but he appears to be leaning towards a move to United.

Manuel Ugarte

As United look to fill the void in their midfield with Casemiro aging, Manuel Ugarte has emerged as a prime candidate.

The Uruguayan midfielder, currently with PSG, has been a standout in this year’s Copa America.

Despite his recent move from Sporting CP to PSG for around £50 million, Ugarte has reportedly fallen out of favor with manager Luis Enrique, making a transfer to United a viable option.

Matthijs de Ligt

Matthijs de Ligt, who thrived under Ten Hag at Ajax, is another player United are considering.

The Dutch defender has struggled to find his form since his £68 million move from Juventus.

Despite his previous success, including scoring crucial goals during Ajax’s 2019 Champions League campaign, De Ligt now finds himself lower in the pecking order at Bayern, making a reunion with Ten Hag at Old Trafford an intriguing possibility.
