The Caretaker Committee Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State, Tony Okocha, has stated that the 27 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly who reportedly defected to the APC are not members of the APC. Tony Okocha noted that he was only trying to convince them to join APC when he announced that they had joined APC.
Tony Okocha made this statement during an interview with a journalist on Channels Television. During the interview, Tony Okocha said, "no member of the 27 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly is a card carrying member of the APC. Non of them has their names in our register."
"At a point, we were only enticing them to join APC. It is our duty to entice people into the party. We were enticing them then to join us. We never said that they were members of our party. We were only enticing them to come into the party because they seemed to be hopeless and helpless in the party that produced them."
