PDP Chair: Wike Camp Pushes For Damagum Against Suswam, Agbo

There is heightened tension in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting slated forThursday. The NEC is the second highest organ of the opposition party, after the National Convention.

The NEC meeting, which is the first in the last 19 months, is expected to take far-reaching decisions on issues affecting the party, including the appointment of a substantive national chairman to replace former Senate president, Iyorchia Ayu.

Expectedly, in the run-up to the meeting, supporters of former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, have renewed their supremacy battle over the control of the PDP, ahead of the 2023 general election.

19 Die In Oyo Road Crash

NOT less than 19 persons lost their lives in an auto crash that occurred on the Oyo-Ogbomoso Road on Sunday.

The fatal crash was said to have been caused by a driver who drove against traffic, causing a head-on collision between a Toyota Hiace Bus registered as NTT52ZY and a Toyota Corolla salon car.

According to a statement by the Assistant Corps Marshal, Corps Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps, Jonas Agwu, 19 out of 20 persons involved in the crash died.

Agwu said the FRSC Corps Marshal, Dauda Ali Biu, had directed Sector Commanders to step up patrol operations to tackle the menace of route violation on the nation’s highways.


Publish Loan Agreements By Obasanjo, Yar’Adua, Jonathan, Buhari, SERAP Tells Tinubu

Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has urged President Bola Tinubu to direct appropriate ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) to provide our organization with copies of the loan agreements obtained by the governments of former presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari.

SERAP is also seeking the spending details of any such loans as well as the interests and other payments so far made on the loans.

It also urges him to establish an independent audit on the spending of the loans obtained by the governments of the former presidents, and to make public the findings of any such audit.

Edo Guber: Idahosa Tasks LP On Resolution Of Crisis

As the countdown to Edo governorship election billed for September 21 continues, the factional Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate, Hilton Idahosa, has called on the party members to be united and close ranks.

Idahosa said if the imbroglio in the party is not quickly resolved it would affect the electoral fortune of the party in the September election, stressing that the party is at the point of snatching victory from the jaws of defeat.

Speaking with newsmen at his campaign’s headquarters in Benin, Idahosa, who is of Lamidi Apapa-led faction, said: “l have the utmost assurances that the people of Edo State will be ready to give Labour Party their mandate this September, only if we come in as a united, committed and dedicated Labour Party.
