Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi's spokesman Dele Farotimi has responded to rumours that Obi will run for president in 2027 in alliance with former governor Nasir El-Rufai.
In a video that Farotimi posted on X (formerly Twitter), he stated that in 2027, ideas, not people, should take centre stage. He made it plain that he has respect for Peter Obi, but he will not back him in 2027 if he teams up with El-Rufai. Pay attention to the candidates' platforms, he said. Think about whether these candidates have fresh ideas to solve Nigeria's problems, he said.
In Farotimi's words: "A Peter Obi that is romancing with an El-Rufai cannot find my support, let us be clear. There are certain lines that you draw. It is about Ideas so when we come to that bridge in 2027, if we get to that bridge, don't look at the person, look to the ideas that they espouse. Are they promising a new Nigeria and a different way of doing things? Are they promising you citizenship? Do they bear promises that suggest that we might have a turnaround in our country? That is what 2027 is about".
