In a recent interview with DAZN, former Manchester United striker Giuseppe Rossi made bold assertions about Lionel Messi's prowess, insisting that even at 80 years old, Messi would reign as the top player in the MLS.

Rossi's comments come on the heels of Messi's return to form with Inter Miami after a sluggish start due to a hamstring injury.

Notably, Messi's standout performance in the recent match against Nashville, where he notched a brace and an assist, showcased his enduring brilliance.

Despite being in the twilight of his career, Rossi contends that Messi's superiority in the league remains unquestionable.

Moreover, Rossi expressed concerns about the MLS's future once Messi retires, emphasizing the league's reliance on his star power both on and off the pitch.

Rossi pointed out the challenge of finding a suitable successor to fill the void left by Messi's departure, highlighting potential repercussions for the league's performance and appeal.

Meanwhile, Messi himself has addressed retirement speculation, emphasizing his commitment to playing as long as he continues to derive joy from the sport and contribute to his team's success.

He remains focused on his present enjoyment of football while keeping an open mind about his future endeavors post-retirement.

"As a player, I know that the moment I feel that I am no longer performing, that I am no longer enjoying it or helping my teammates, I will retire," Messi said in an interview with the Big Time podcast.

"I am really self-critical; I know when I am good and when I am bad. So for my retirement, it will not matter what age I am. If I feel good, I will keep playing."

When further pressed about his plans post-retirement, the 36-year-old replied: "I have not yet thought about this, I am still focused on enjoying my football every day. I hope to continue playing for a while longer, that is my plan. After that, I will try to do something I like in a new role."

As Messi prepares for Inter Miami's upcoming match against the New England Revolution, his impressive goal-scoring record this season underscores his enduring impact and significance in the MLS.
