In a recent interview with The Sun, esteemed elder statesman Pa Edwin Clark, leader of the Southern and Middle-Belt Leaders Forum (SMBLF), reminisced about a pivotal moment in Nigeria's history.

He recalled how, during late President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua's illness and treatment in Saudi Arabia, numerous groups from different regions of Nigeria urged Vice President Goodluck Jonathan to take charge and lead the country.

Pa Clark mentioned that various groups, including Yoruba, South-South, and South-East organizations, advocated for Jonathan's leadership.

He also highlighted the formation of the Congress for Equality and Change (CEC), led by former Senate President Ameh Ebute, which aimed to promote fairness and change in Nigeria.

The CEC's inauguration drew significant support, with over 400 attendees, including retired generals like General Lekwot, General Dogonyaro, and General Bamaiyi.

Pa Clark's recollection underscores the unity and solidarity displayed by Nigerian groups during a critical period in the country's history. His words serve as a reminder of the importance of collective action and the pursuit of fairness and change in Nigeria.

In his own words: “And so we had many groups, the Yoruba groups, the South-South, the South-East group, everybody saying that Jonathan should be made to act. And then we had what we call Congress for Equality and Change (CEC) led by former President of the Senate, Ameh Ebute, that was the name we gave to it.”
