Manchester United and Manchester City are set to kick off the new season with a clash in the 2024 Community Shield on August 10, according to Manchester World.

This high profile match will take place at Wembley Stadium, starting at 3pm, a decision made by the Football Association (FA) to accommodate the travel needs of both Manchester-based fanbases.

The kick-off time announcement has been welcomed by both sets of supporters, particularly City fans who had previously expressed dissatisfaction with last year’s later kick-off against Arsenal.

The 2023 Community Shield match started at 4pm on a Sunday, prompting many City fans to boycott the game.

Additionally, travel complications marred the 2022 FA Cup semi-finals for City fans due to a lack of direct train services from Manchester to London.

The 2024 Community Shield will feature Premier League champions Manchester City against FA Cup winners Manchester United.

United claimed their spot by defeating City in the FA Cup final in May, setting the stage for a thrilling rematch.

This match marks the first Manchester derby in the Community Shield since 2011, when United overturned a two-goal deficit to secure a 3-2 victory.

Historically, the Red Devils last lifted the Community Shield in 2016 under Jose Mourinho.

However, City, despite being frequent finalists, have faced a challenging period in this competition, losing their last four finals and last winning in 2019.

Following the Community Shield, Manchester City will commence their Premier League campaign on August 18 with an away game against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Meanwhile, Manchester United will start their league season two days earlier, hosting Fulham at Old Trafford.
