On 6th July, 2024 the Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) of the Federal University, Lokoja (FUL), Kazeem Suarau while receiving an award/commendation letter from the Centre for Ethics and Self Value Orientation (CESVO), revealed that the current delay in the implementation of the national minimum wage by the Federal Government has negatively impacted the livelihood of millions of hardworking good citizens of the country because the prices of essential goods and services continue to rise and the purchasing power of ordinary citizens has dwindled.

According to Vanguard, the Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) of the Federal University, Lokoja (FUL), Kazeem Suarau said "The current delay in the implementation of the minimum wage has negatively impacted on the livelihood of millions of hardworking Nigerians, who struggle daily to make ends meet. As prices of essential goods and services continue to rise, the purchasing power of ordinary citizens has dwindled, further deepening poverty and inequality in the country. It is crucial to recognize that an adequate minimum wage is not just a matter of economic policy but a fundamental human rights issue. It directly impacts the well-being and dignity of workers and their families, ensuring they can afford basic necessities and live decent lives."

Kazeem Suarau urged the administration of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu to prioritize and expedite the process of implementing the new national minimum wage that would reflect the current economic hardship facing the country. He also added that if President Tinubu's administration would implement a minimum wage that would reflect the current economic situation of the country, the action would not only alleviate the sufferings of the good citizens of the country but would also stimulate economic growth by boosting consumer spending and overall productivity.
