No request for presidential jet before Senate – Akpabio

Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has denied reports of President Bola Tinubu requesting the approval of funds to procure a presidential jet.

Akpabio debunked the reports after a closed-door meeting of senators, which lasted over an hour.

Several reports have alleged that Tinubu, was seeking the National Assembly’s approval of funds for the purchase of a new presidential jet.

Debunking the rumor, Akpabio said, “I have never had that correspondence to approve the purchase of a plane. We care about the President, we care about Nigerians.

CBN ends Form M verification

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) yesterday suspended its FX Price Verification System (PVS) portal, effective July 1.

The discontinuation came 10 months after the portal’s launch in August last year.

The PVS portal was designed to curb over-invoicing and under-invoicing in international trade transactions.

Importers were required to submit a Price Verification Report generated by the portal as part of their Form M application, a declaration for importing physical goods.

Emirate Tussle: Flag Hoisted At Nassarawa Mini Palace

As the Kano emirate tussle lingers, the traditional and official flags have been hoisted at the Nassarawa mini palace which the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero currently occupies.

Daily Trust reports that the flag stands as a symbol of authority and signifies the presence of an emir once raised.

It is often raised every day by 6 am and taken down by 6 pm and remains down when the emir is officially outside the palace or travels.

It was observed that the flag was set for hoisting on Wednesday morning when the iron rod was installed but the flag was brought later in the evening and it was raised by 6 am on Thursday.

Daily Trust reports that as the two embattled emirs, Aminu Ado Bayero and Muhammadu Sanusi II continue to occupy the two palaces laying claim to the Kano Emirate throne, they keep observing and exercising all other traditional and royal rites.

NSCDC nabs 4 suspected vandals, recovers firearm in FCT

The Federal Capital Territory, FCT Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has arrested four suspected vandals in the Kwali area council.

The Command’s spokesman, Samuel Idoko, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.

He said that one of the suspects was nabbed while removing an armoured cable at the National Mathematical Centre (NMC), adding that his arrest led to the apprehension of the three others.

He added that the suspect’s confession upon interrogation led to the successful recovery of more stolen cables from a market, where they had been taken for sale.
