Road Safety Officer ambushed by Robbers in Lokoja
A Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officer was shot and robbed in a brazen daylight attack on Friday in Lokoja, Kogi State, according to The PUNCH.
The officer, identified only as Abu, was returning home on his motorcycle after a bank visit when he was ambushed by armed robbers. Eyewitnesses reported seeing a grey Toyota Camry tailing Abu before blocking him near Lokongoma Market. A struggle ensued over a bag believed to contain a large sum of money. Tragically, Abu was shot three times in the legs and shoulder during the altercation.
Police spokesperson William Aya confirmed the incident, stating officers responded to a distress call at 1:30 pm and found Abu critically injured. While the exact amount stolen remains unknown, N139,000 was recovered at the scene. Abu was rushed to a hospital for treatment.
This attack highlights the dangers faced by ordinary citizens in Nigeria, even law enforcement personnel. Police are currently investigating the incident and searching for the perpetrators.
