Former National Vice Chairman of the South West for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Eddy Olafeso, has voiced his support for Waziri Atiku Abubakar's call for party mergers. Olafeso stressed that considering the possibility of joining forces is a positive step. He pointed out that if the votes from the NNPP, Labour Party, and PDP were consolidated, the ruling APC would fall short of victory by six million votes.

In a statement reported by The Sun News, Chief Eddy Olafeso remarked, "The APC did that in 2013, 2014, and 2015. Realignment. Rediscovery and embracing one another are the best things one can do in a multi-party democracy like ours. So, it is not wrong for Waziri Atiku to advocate for that. And today, the story could have been different. Today, we could have ended the eight wasted, locust years of Buhari. Honestly, the way forward is for us to unite against the party that is causing harm to our nation."

Olafeso's endorsement of Atiku's proposal underscores the potential strength that could arise from collaboration among opposition parties. He believes that such unity could have altered the political landscape, potentially leading to a different outcome in recent elections. He emphasizes the importance of solidarity in countering the perceived negative impact of the ruling party on the nation. This stance reflects a broader sentiment among opposition figures regarding the need for strategic alliances to challenge the dominance of the ruling party.
