The Daily Post reports that Ugwumba Uche Nwosu, a former Imo State commissioner for lands, has called on Chief Emeka Ihedioha, the state's former governor, to think about joining the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Ihedioha recently resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing a disagreement with the party's present direction and his own personal opinions. He was disappointed in the party's betrayal of its core values and its inability to carry out internal changes or successfully challenge the APC-led government.

In his resignation letter addressed to the PDP chairman in Mbutu Ward, Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State, Ihedioha stated, "Regrettably, in recent times, the party has taken on a path that is at variance with my personal beliefs. Despite my attempt to offer counsel, the party is, sadly, no longer able to carry out internal reforms, enforce its own rules, or offer credible opposition to the ruling All Progressives Congress. It is in the light of the foregoing that I am compelled to offer my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party effective immediately."

In the wake of Ihedioha's exit, a number of prominent PDP members in Imo State resigned, including Chief Charles Ugwu, the state chairman, former deputy governor Engineer Gerald Irona, and former education commissioner Prof. Jude Njoku.

Ugwumba Uche Nwosu, the former chief of staff to former Imo governor Rochas Okorocha, discussed the matter with media and encouraged Ihedioha and other former PDP heavyweights from Imo State to think about joining the APC. He underlined the possibility of working with Governor Hope Uzodimma to further the growth of the state.

Nwosu said that Ihedioha and his collaborators would have the chance to work with the governor and other nationalists to advance Imo if they sided with the ruling APC. He also emphasised how joining the APC would allow them to successfully support President Bola Tinubu's administration.

Nwosu remarked, "I have been observing the developments in the Imo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and I am aware of some significant figures in the party resigning, including Rt. Hon. Ihedioha, his deputy in the 2019 governorship election, Hon. Irona, and several other leaders and key members of the party. Since their departure, there has been speculation on their next political course, and given the circumstances, joining the ruling party, APC, seems to be the most viable option for them."
